Overflow for Mac offers you a convenient interface for categorizing and launching your favorite apps. This shareware app can be summoned either by clicking on its icon or via a customizable keyboard shortcut. Unlike OS X's Launchpad, it allows you to open media files, and also to have custom layouts and categories for organizing your data.
Overflow for Mac's main interface consists of a grid of icons ready to be tapped and a list of categories. Adding new categories or items can be done either in editing mode or via an Option-click; While in edit mode, you can also resize the launcher to reveal more icon placeholders. In the software's preferences you can set icon size and spacing, change the launcher color and transparency, assign a global keyboard shortcut, and toggle between a dock and a menu bar icon.
A nice touch to the dock icon is that it changes in accordance with the color you've selected for the launcher. If you use a keyboard shortcut to summon the launcher, you can have it appear behind the cursor; If you use the dock icon, you can set it to behave like a stack. If you work with files directly, you might prefer a tool like this one over OS X's default launcher. When used with an easy keyboard shortcut, this third-party launcher becomes quite convenient.

The same problem as reported under Apps are launched in the background and do not switch to front unless you manually select the window This largely impedes this otherwise very nice launcher! Developper still don't reply to emails Sorry, but without fixing this issue Overflow is pointless though worth the money if this issue is fixed.
Francola Jan 8 Unfortunately, my experience is not the same. I have had no response to emails or here at MacUpdate and I have many apps that launch in the background. I would like to invest as well as give a better report, but the supposed Leopard fix is not working for me and no one has let me know anything. This version, 2. No glitches whatsoever. No problems to report. I've been using Overflow for several years now, and love it.
It's very intelligently designed and eminently efficient. A beautiful job all the way around. I use it constantly and effortlessly each day and would miss it greatly if it was gone. I've found the developer to be very responsive and extremely helpful.
Overflow is a real class act. Francola Jan 7 Was really wanting to purchase this, but I am still getting the launch in background problem here. Hopefully this can be fully fixed someday. Jan13 Dec 16 I must sadly report, that this last version is piece of rubbish Previous version smooth no problem this one seams to be a nightmare!!! Gurubez Dec 9 I mean also after a restart?
I would love to see some improvements to Overflow. I wonder why the dock icon has to be so oddly programmed and just doesn't simply use a. Also, it would be great if the actual program had a facelift. I very much love the program, but feel it is not very refined. I will continue to use it and support the author, but hope he has some plans on making it more efficient and more polished : Great work on an App that should have been included with OS X ;. Corpsecorps Nov 3 Well, since Leopard's "Stacks" are a bust, being essentially a poorly designed, quirky, step backward in Dock folder functionality with almost no user controls, Overflow is still THE app for this sort of thing.
I meant to give version 2. After a couple of glitches, Overflow 2. I emailed Dan, the developer, about them and he was, as always, very responsive, very helpful and very kind. Dan Messer is another gifted software developer of whom I have the highest regard I'd be lost without Overflow; I use it, effortlessly, many times each day. It's an incredibly wonderful, useful app. Easer Sep 20 I like this program, but you know, in less than 24 hours it has now downloaded and upgraded two updates. While I might applaud an author who fixes problems promptly, it is also highly annoying to have disruptions to my workflow this frequently.
It's not as sophisticated, but at least it stays put. Darylf2 Sep 19 Its gorgeous. Its powrful. Its simple. I hate to imagine using my Mac without Overflow. Plus Stunt Software's support is truly astonishing. From feature requests to bug fixes, the developer really delivers!
Steve K Sep 19 I love this li'l utility. All of these apps improve the Mac user experience so much that it's hard to imagine computing without them. Never any problems with Overflow. Doesn't use too much precious memory. Easy on the eyes. Excellent stuff. Mrchips Sep 19 I've tried many app launcher programs and never found one that fit the way I worked until I found Overflow. It is so easy to use and so unobtrusive.
I recently bought LaunchBar, which many people love. But I can't seem to remember the names of files, etc. Overflow shows the icons of the files with the names below and the files apps can be organized into categories accessible on tabbed pages. I just hit the hotkey, and click the icon of the app I want to launch. This update includes one feature I really wanted. Now you can select in preferences to have Overflow appear at your cursor location.
Another second saved! And I've never had a problem with it, it just works. Corpsecorps Sep 1 Get it! Says back it up with reasons. Software THIS great should be encouraged and used! Dalahast Aug 16 I can't even begin to tell you how useful this is. I had icons on my Dock, and was desperate for a solution.
I went on over to MacApper and found the Overflow giveaway. I didn't even have to read the help, I just started using it and it did what it was supposed to do. Now, I'm down to just 50 Dock apps, and Overflow takes care of the rest. It solved my problems, and if you're experiencing anything like what I did, you'll be glad you tried Overflow! Drdul Jul 14 I just switched to a Mac from Windows, and I soon understood whay everyone on a Mac uses a launcher - there's just not enough room in the dock for everything, and having to navigate the Applications folder to launch something is annoying.
I wanted something simple and elegant, and I found it in Overflow. As a mostly-reformed Windows user, I like its Start button-like mode of operation. I've assigned F1 as the hotkey for Overflow, so all I do is hit F1, click the cartegory I want, and click the app I want. Dlwhite Jun 13 It remains to be seen how well Apple implements their version and whether this original Overflow will become redundant after everyone migrates to OS Any thoughts?
EZ Jun 8 I've been using Overflow for 6 months. It is an indispensible tool for extending the dock; for organizing my projects, applications, folders and files; and for its Finder portals to my folders.
It's a real time saver! Hollyhock Jun 8 An excellent utility that is beautiful to look at and easy to use. Launch Jun 8 What advantage does this program have over creating folders of aliases to programs and documents and putting that folder into the dock? Looks really cool! I think that this program is nearly a must have! Mrmuckle Jun 8 Looks promising, we'll see.
It is an indispensible tool, both for extending the dock, and for organizing my projects, applications, folders and files. Its a real time saver! Davrizio Jun 7 This is a great app! It's nice if you have a lot of apps but don't want the clutter Robin-O-Hood Jun 7 Goofball Jun 7 Overflow is simple, intuitive and extremely handy. I highly recommend it for anybody who doesn't want to get into apps like LaunchBar or Quicksilver for fast application access.
Syntiq Jun 7 This App is great. In the meantime I really get used to Namely as App Launcher But anyway I really love Overflow and think this is a great app. Buy it for this price as long as you could ;. Shiskbob Jun 7 My Dock over-flowth. This might be the way out. I am taking a look. Steve K Jun 7 My new favorite app launcher. Sajdak70 Jun 7 Overflow is very simple application, but very useful when you want keep Dock clean.
GUI of Overflow is very intuitive and clean. And eyes catching for me also. Retirednhappy Jun 7 Loved this since trying it as a replacement for drop drawers. RogerKatz Jun 7 This is certainly a great program. I see this is on sale today, so if you are on the fence, let me tell you it is absolutely essential to me. I LOVE this. When I use another computer that doesn't have this, I miss it terribly.
It is stable, customizable, incredible. You can even drag a folder you use alot into it so you can select it just like it were an app, and the folder will pop right up for you. There are some apps I have that I wouldn't bother upgrading, but this one is truly 1 on my list. Buy this, really, espcially with this great deal.
